On our kitchen wall we have our family scripture. The boys have it memorized, and we talk about it often as we sit at the table sharing meals. Everyone gets to make all sorts of choices in their life. Big ones, small ones. Often it is the collection of all the small choices that make up who we are and what we think about. We talk about good choices, and poor ones. Popular choices, and ones that take courage.
We live in a city that is divided - either you are Mormon or you are not. It is a strange distinction to me, but the reality in which we have decided to stay and raise our children in. And so we teach them that each person gets to make their own choices about what they believe and who [or what] they believe in. It is the right and privilege of being human, and living on this earth. In our house, we choose to follow what God asks of us. Osborns choose to follow the Lord and his commandments. We show our love for Jesus Christ through our actions, thoughts, and choices.
I hope that as my children grow older that they will want to continue on this path that we are teaching them. That they will choose to build upon this foundation we have started for them. That they will find peace and joy by following God. That they will respect others' choices. That they will make good judgements for themselves without being judgmental of others. That they will feel God's love for them as they learn and grow.
We took the stickers off the wall this week, as we are getting ready to sell this house. Michael said, "Now it doesn't feel like our house anymore". We are already discussing where we will put up our scripture in our new house. ...and Michael is making suggestions for additional family scriptures and mottos.
