You would never know from this photo that Jacob is just recovering from a harrowing emergency room procedure! Peter did a great job of getting him laughing shortly after. Jacob had a little scrape on his back that very quickly became dangerously infected. He was up at the hospital 2 separate evenings getting it evaluated. The second night they decided to drain the infection. We later learned from our doctor (and our friend who was the ER nurse for him) that he should have been knocked-out for this procedure. It was exceptionally painful as they lanced the abscess, and then continued to flush it out 4 separate times removing all the gross stuff inside. He was a very brave boy. Apparently you could hear him scream across the whole ER, but he did not move a muscle while they did the whole procedure (reported our friend the nurse who now has changed her policy to insist with doctors that all children be put under while getting this procedure after watching J). It is looking better today...I am not sure he is out of the woods completely yet. We will find out tomorrow what type of Staph it is as we continue to treat him as if he has the resistant strain. He also has since learned how to swallow pills so that he didn't have to drink the horrible super strength antibiotic. Brave kid.

Back to the ER
