Trying it Out

Scotty has been seeing if he likes to be a big boy...or NOT these days.  This photo says it all - excited to try the underwear, but binky still in his mouth (it is supposed to be down in his bed...big boys only get to sleep with it! ha!).  He's not sure if he wants to be a big boy, and quite frankly neither am I.  The excitement over the underwear lasted one day - running to the little potty, the whole bit.  The next day he fell into my arms in tears when I suggested he put on his "big boy underwear" when he woke up from his nap from his "big boy bed".  He told me he was "not a big boy any more".

But then I have certain conversations with him that remind me that he is growing so quickly it is shocking.  Yesterday while walking up the stairs we were singing "I Love to See the Temple" -
...'I'll prepare myself, when I am young,' I sing.
He stops me to ask, 'what does young MEAN?' ...'a little boy like you,' I answer, he nods his head waiting for me to keep singing...'this is my sacred duty,'
'what does the word duty MEAN?' ...hmmm how to answer a 2.5 year old THAT?...And I tell him more than he can understand because I am going to the temple that night and a lot is on my mind.  We get to the top of the stairs and he runs off to play and I am still humming his self-proclaimed "favorite song".
