Playroom Re-do

Over the long holiday weekend we rearranged our playroom. How is that possible? one might ask, being that it is a tiny room with too many toys. We started with making 3 piles: keep, donate, trash. The boys loved this process, making a little song as they went through each bin and basket I handed them. They were very purposeful in their decisions - I agreed with all of them. Scotty danced around playing with the toys and singing their song. We will take our very large donation pile to the Road Home tomorrow after school.

Why? Is another good question. The big boys do not play with most of the toys any more. After school every day they want to make projects. The supplies were all nicely tucked away up high in a closet far away from small children. Time to change all of this. The room needs now to work for different age groups.

Solution: Make a project desk - bring out ALL the art supplies so they are available to the big boys. Rearrange the furniture so one shelf is high with games for older children (no longer hidden in the closet). Put away lots of the toys to save for little boys for later. Create a cozy little boy play space on the other side of the room. Move the blocks to the kitchen - they need a hard floor to build on anyway.

Photos are soon coming. We are waiting on our desk top from IKEA - coming any day now! Michael has been helping me put it all together. He has been learning to be a GREAT organizer (not necessarily a natural inclination for him). I have had so much fun with him - lots of hard work and joyful persistence.

Scotty was proud of himself that he got in the way of their photo...he knew he ruined it...little stinker. The building has begun. I love it.
