Every week Jacob builds a very large creation out of unit blocks on the kitchen floor. We tip-toe around it for a couple of days as he continues to add to it, modify his design, and then finalize his construction in order to then play with it. He sets up elaborate scenes with all of his Bionicles and plays Bionicle battles on the last day. Before it comes down he asks me to take a photo like this one. The buildings are getting more complicated, detailed, taller and thoughtful.
His little brother is watching. Scotty has not cared much for anything besides his iPod touch lately. I blame it all on a mother that was sick in bed for way too many months. Moving the blocks to the kitchen was a purposeful move that I was hoping would work....and I am just so dang pleased I could scream! Yay! In the beginning he really didn't even know what to do with the blocks and would just watch the big boys. Next he experimented by stacking a few. Then he liked building and knocking them down - whole lines of them. Now he has begun to build structures and enclosures. While he builds he is starting to tell me stories about his buildings and the creatures inside (i.e. a hotel for lady bugs). Ahhhh...all the block stages from the good ol' days of child development at Bing! It give me goose bumps and a big fat smile.
And so he now likes to build.
-This is a trap for the alien. But oh, no! The alien can escape with out knocking over any blocks! Watch! Told-ya.
Then he needs a picture. Just like his big brother.
