This Christmas

Michael and Jacob crafted with out me today as I grocery shopped for our weekend feasting.  Each made a clothes pin toy soldier for the tree following my instructions I left behind.

Tonight we had pizza and hot tubbing with the Manwarings up in the mountains.  Christmas feels like real Christmas with these friends.

Before tucking 3 big boys in bed we watched our favorite Christmas home videos.  Scotty was 1.5 years old, dressed as a shepherd in our Christmas Eve nativity - thinking he was a pirate!  We watched it at least 8 times, laughing harder upon every repeat.

This Christmas we create together.  We keep old friendships.  We giggle together at family memories.

“This Christmas, mend a quarrel.
Seek out a forgotten friend.
Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust.
Write a letter.
Give a soft answer.
Encourage youth.
Manifest your loyalty in word and deed.
Keep a promise.
Forgo a grudge.
Forgive an enemy.
Apologize.
Try to understand.
Examine your demands on others.
Think first of someone else.
Be kind.
Be gentle.
Laugh a little more.
Express your gratitude.
Welcome a stranger.
Gladden the heart of a child.
Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.
Speak your love and then speak it again.”

- Howard W. Hunter, from his final address at the Christmas Devotional in 1994
