Drummer's Memorial Service

Peter's grandmother, Jean Gregory Osborn, affectionately called Drummer by everyone passed away in her sleep early Friday morning. Peter had the opportunity of going to visit her one last time Thursday night. She recognized him, which he really loved. He also had a dream about his grandpa coming to get her early the morning she died, that woke him from his sleep. It was a peaceful and precious experience for him. I like that our boys were able to know her. Peter often took them one at time on Sunday afternoons to go visit her for a couple hours.

Yesterday Peter took the boys to a small memorial service at Brighton Gardens, where she lived for about 10 years. A more formal funeral will be later this summer in Indiana, but we aren't sure if we will be able to attend. I am glad that he took the boys. They knew her - and I wanted them to be a part of saying good-bye to her.

Jacob told me as we were getting them ready to leave that once Drummer had a candy treat waiting for him when he came to visit her. He said, "She gave that to me because she knew she would die one day and she wanted me to know that she loved me."
Peter took this photo of her friends at her service. I can't help but think how hard that must be to live there and watch each of your friends pass away, waiting for your turn. Perhaps the reunion with loved ones at death is what would be reassuring.
