Tonight was our first Pinewood Derby. Michael and Peter made the car 2 nights ago. Michael designed it. Peter cut it. Michael did the rest - sanded, painted, added the decals. Peter added the weights. Michael was so very worried about winning. We told him many many times - You are NOT going to win. You are NOT going to win. It is just for fun. Nobody ever wins. Just be ready to have fun!When we got to the race, his car was actually under weight and he was worried that he would lose every race.
BUT HE ACTUALLY WON! Wahoo! Out of about 45 cars, Michael came in 2nd place and got a really fabulous trophy. To win, they take the average of all your car's racing times. He was super surprised when they called his name at the award ceremony. Peter took him to Baskin Robins for an ice cream sunday to celebrate. We have a very happy boy already planning show-and-tell tomorrow for school.
